Colour gets most of the attention but the appearance of real quality often rests upon the black. Depth of gloss, print density, level of toning and sharpness of dot reproduction are fundamental to the quality of any black printing.

A specialist range of black inks has been developed by Hostmann-Steinberg which we have introduced to the UK market. A detailed study of the needs of the different sectors of the litho and letterpress printing markets has resulted in a complete revision of the product range available. With the 'front line' products described here and a further range of inks for special applications the needs of all sectors are covered.

Throughout the development programme, attention was given to both on-press performance and final print result. The outcome is a series of products with good litho properties (minimising print wastage), rapid drying (for higher print speeds and faster work-and-turn) and optimum print appearance for the application concerned.

ENDURA Black

A highly rub-resistant black with good gloss and very good density and setting properties. Excellent litho performance and thorough oxidation drying for packaging work and matt coated substrates.

A varnishable version is also available.

Perfecting Black

Good density, gloss and dot sharpness with the low tack and slow penetration.

Suitable for 1/1, 1/2 and 1/4 perfector sheet-fed offset presses. For coated and uncoated papers. Remains fresh in the duct overnight.

An ink of the highest quality with excellent density, dot sharpness, and fast drying. Trouble free printing on all coated and uncoated boards.

EXCEL Intense Black

Formulated to combine the highest density with dot-for-dot reproduction, whether conventional or stochastic screened.

It gives problem free printability when printing coated or uncoated papers from a wide range of presses, whether alcohol damped or alcohol free. Rapid drying to a good gloss finish allows high pressure speeds to be maintained.

EXCEL Universal Black

A universal black with outstanding density, very good gloss and good setting.

Excellent press performance with rapidly achieved and stable ink/water balance minimises waste. For use on coated and uncoated stocks. The very rapid setting allows high press speeds and large stacks to be maintained whilst minimising the use of anti-set-off spray.

SPEEDO Black

Extremely fast setting with good litho performance, excellent gloss and very good print density.

Rapid drying allows very fast work-and-turn and the ink is highly suitable for IR drying.
